Buenos Aires

After spending a few days in the capital city of Argentina, we have to admit Buenos Aires caught us off guard. There are many things to see and do in Buenos Aires, but it's the vibrant atmosphere that makes the city so special.

Just across the Rio de la Plata basin lies Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. It's not only a beautiful UNESCO-listed city but also one of the best day trips from Buenos Aires.

Getting to Colonia from Buenos Aires by ferry is very straightforward and can be easily done without a guided tour.

Plan a Trip to Argentinian Patagonia

There are so many things to know before visiting Patagonia that we strongly recommend you to read our guide first.

Whether you want to visit Argentina or extend your trip to Chile, our in-depth Patagonia itinerary has got you covered.

Patagonia is a hiker's paradise, and here you will find our favorite and best hikes in Patagonia.

While you can visit Patagonia all year round, it's good to know the pros and cons of every season before you book the flight tickets. This travel guide will help you determine when is the best time to visit Patagonia.

Patagonia is a remote region with harsh weather conditions. If you're wondering what to pack for Patagonia, then look no further.

Tierra del Fuego

At the southernmost tip of Argentina and the entire South American continent lies the mysterious Tierra del Fuego, also known as Land of the Fire in English.

Ushuaia, nicknamed the End of the World, is a gateway to Argentinian Patagonia. Most travelers will either start or end their trip across this remote region.

There are more things to see and do in Ushuaia than meets the eye, so you shouldn't skip this charming town.

One of the most accessible places to explore is Tierra del Fuego National Park which can be easily visited on a day trip from Ushuaia.

Los Glaciares National Park

El Calafate is a tourist hub sitting on the shores of Lago Argentino halfway between El Chalten and Torres del Paine. The town of El Calafate is a gateway to Los Glaciares National Park and contains everything visitors need in one place.

There are not many travelers who wouldn't have Perito Moreno Glacier on their itinerary as it's a top attraction in Patagonia. The glacier is close to El Calafate and easily accessible even without a local guide.

El Chalten

El Chalten is often described as the hiking capital of Argentina, and we can only second this opinion. So here's everything you should know about El Chalten before you go.

The best hike in El Chalten is Laguna de Los Tres which will take you to a stunning mountain lake at the base of the iconic Fitz Roy.

The next must-do hike in El Chalten is Laguna Torre featuring Cerro Torre, another iconic mountain in the Los Glaciares National Park.

Argentina to Chile

We continued from El Chalten to Chile, but not via the regular Ruta 40 as often suggested. The journey from El Chalten to Villa O'Higgins was one of our all-time favorite adventures.
