Why Visit Limerick
We already established that Limerick is strategically located on Ireland's west coast. But there is more.
In fact, there are plenty of things to see and do in Limerick for all ages.
You can explore the medieval King John's Castle, see the Treaty Stone, grab a beer at a traditional Irish pub, visit Limerick City Gallery of Art, marvel at the stained glass at St. Mary's Cathedral, and taste food at Milk Market.
Or you can just do the Three Bridges Walk along the River Shannon that runs through the city.
This relaxing walk was our favorite part of a visit to Limerick. Finally, we can't fail to mention the variety of day trips Limerick has to offer.
But more about it down below.
Why Stay in Limerick
There is one more reason why you should stay in Limerick. It's a great base for exploring some of the nearby major attractions.
Only a short drive from Limerick is Bunratty Castle, one of Ireland's most beautiful castles.
A bit further north is County Clare.
This county is home to The Burren, one of Ireland's most unique sceneries.
You will also find the iconic Cliffs of Moher here. Southeast of here are Cahir Castle and the Rock of Cashel.
A beautiful Adare village is within a short drive as well. Some road-trippers can explore even Dingle or the Ring of Kerry from here.
As this would be a very long day on the road, it would be better to stay in Killarney overnight.
As you can see, you can easily base yourself in Limerick and take day trips from there.
If you prefer cities over the countryside, this is an ideal option.
Where to Stay in Limerick
Limerick is not as touristy as some other Irish towns, so the selection of hotels is not as good.
That doesn't mean you won't find comfortable accommodation here.
Hands down, the best area to stay in Limerick is the city center.
You will find everything you need right here, from main tourist sights, restaurants, and stores to great hotels.
There are also some hotels in Castletroy. This area is just off the M7, about 5 kilometers from the City Center.
There is really no reason to stay so far from the main tourist area unless you find a special offer.
If you find cities too noisy and crowded, you can always find some nice bed and breakfasts and hotels in the countryside around Limerick.
